Ingredients
1 big onion, diced
5 Lbs potatoes, thinly sliced
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp herbes de Provence
Salt and pepper to taste
16 oz heavy whipping cream
10 oz grated mozzarella cheese
Butter to grease the dish
5 smoked sausages, sliced or 2.5 oz bacon bits (optional)
Instructions
1 - Preheat oven to 350°F.
2 - Grease a large oven dish with butter.
3 - Dice onion, slice potatoes, and mince garlic.
4 - Place a layer of potatoes in the bottom of the dish.
5 - Add a layer of onions, and a sprinkle with garlic.
6 - Repeat by adding a layer of potatoes, a layer of onions, and garlic. End with a layer of potatoes. (Also add optional sausages or bacon bits in layers.)
7 - Sprinkle with nutmeg and herbes de Provence.
8 - Add salt & pepper to taste.
9 - Pour the cream and sprinkle with cheese.
10 - Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. (If cheese gets too golden too quickly, cover with aluminum foil.)
